This handsome and intricate solid owl wood carving decorative wall art is made from a natural bark edged walnut log cross section.
 
An extra-large carving in comparison to most of my other carved wall art. 
 
Overall measurements are 21" long x 15" tall x 2" at its thickest parts.
 
As you can see in a few of the pics, there are some superficial cracks in the "live edge" part of the wood.  These were sealed with  clear epoxy, and in an attempt to keep this carving "rustic" I chose to leave the cracks visible.
 
Pleased with how this one finished up after the 20+ hours of work on it.
 
The initial idea was to have it appear as though the owl is contently looking out of its carved notch in a tree trunk.  I think it pulled off nicely!
 
Finished in three coats of satin lacquer.
 
Three keyhole carvings in the back to adequately hang this large and heavy piece.
 
My company logo has been carved into the back and dated.
