Have a look at this absolutely stunning exotic wood, premium two tier deluxe competition chess set.  
 
This is not something you will find at your local hobby or craft store, but a unique handmade hardwood piece of art.  The proof is in the pudding.......
 
Featuring competition sized 2 1/4" squares and a playing surface made from American black walnut and American tiger maple. and bordered in American walnut.
 
The base is made from American curly cherry and features decorative edge around the playing surface AND base.
 
The base ledge next to the playing surface is 1.5" for retired players.
 
The overall dimensions are 23 1/4 x 23 1/4 x 1 1/4".
 
The board is finished in three coats of polyurethane on the top and bottom.
 
The playing surface is sanded to 600 grit and also finished in semi-gloss polyurethane.
 
Optional silicone grip feet attached to the bottom are available to purchase for better hard surface stability.
 
The chess pieces are machined and hand carved from curly maple and walnut, triple weighted with felt bottoms.  
 
Each piece was meticulously handcrafted and finished. Two extra queens are included in the set for proper chess play.
 
The pieces in this set are beefy.  The kings measure a full 4" tall with a 1 5/8" base.  The piece sets fit nicely on both sets of boards.
 
The pieces are stain spray painted, and cnc carved to showcase the burnt look and carvings into each individual piece.
 
I finished the board in satin poly and clear coat lacquer sprayed the pieces in gloss to offer a contrast between board and pieces.
