Check out this simply gorgeous handcrafted "Nautica" dovetail exotic wood jewelry box. This is a multipurpose box that could be used as an urn, curio, chess piece, or, jewelry box.

Overall Box Measurements- Box Exterior: 16.75 x 11 x 7". Drawers: 15.25" x 9.75" x 1.75"

The box body is built from a gorgeous and rich African mahogany. Wanted to do some inlay work on the corners so I chose birdseye maple (super hard and beautiful) as the wood to use for the box top and ambrosia maple for the bottom. The shell design on the lid is made from purpleheart and mounted on a decorative square of birdseye maple wood.

The box interior also represents a terrific amount of work... and lumber! There are three removable, felt-lined trays, built from solid mahogany and ambrosia maple. I partitioned these in such a way that trays will offer increased space for larger jewelry or other keepsakes as you go further down into the box. Small stuff up top, big stuff down below.

I used dovetail joinery on the box exterior and finger joinery for the interior box trays. For the hardware, I chose to use two pair of brass hinges, an interior flush set, and exterior mounted set.

Lots of storage in this little mini-curio armoire. You can tell its solid hardwood just by the weight of it!

I finished the box in two coats of Danish oil, followed by a coat of my proprietary furniture wax and conditioner. Overall, pleased with how it finished up... I would, however, like to apologize for the expensive price tag. This is one of the most detailed, unique, and time-consuming projects I have built to date. I dare you to find another like it!
