This gorgeous and solid 18-inch walnut and maple competition minimalist chess set is made in our shop in Missouri, U.S.A from premium handpicked hardwoods.

THE BOARD

The 18-inch competition sized minimalist chess board is constructed of premium American walnut and maple woods. The squares on this board measure the "regulation/tournament" sized 2 1/4 inches by 2 1/4 inches.

The overall dimensions of the board are approximately 18 x 18 x 3/4" thick.... making the board solid and noticeably weighty.

The board has been hand finished with three coats of semi-gloss polyurethane on all sides and edges.

Black silicone grip feet (pictured last) are optional to have installed on the bottom of the board for better hard surface grip and stability. The silicone grip feet are affixed with screws into the bottom four corners of the board, are round in shape, and measure 5/8" tall x 5/8" in diameter.
 

THE PIECES

The minimalist chess pieces are CNC carved from American walnut and maple, triple weighted with a felt bottom and hand finished with semi-gloss polyurethane to beautify and protect.

Two extra queens are included in the set for proper chess play.

The pieces in this set are beefy and robust.

Here are the measurements by piece:  The kings are 4" tall with a 1.7" base.  The queens are 3.3" tall with a 1.6" base.  The bishops are 3.1" tall with a 1.5" base.  The knights are 3.2" tall with a 1.5" base.  The rooks are 2.5" tall with a 1.5" base.  The pawns are 2.2" tall with a 1.3" base.

All pieces have lead inserts into the bottom of each piece to add to their "heft". The approximate weight of the piece set is 47 ounces, or about 3 pounds.
