Introducing this unique and beautiful "Scorched Earth" competition burnt hardwood chess set.... a first of it's kind coming out of my wood shop.

The board was challenging. I wanted to make a flame tempered board with woods that wouldn't warp, crack, or come completely apart with exposure to heat. Made from black walnut and tiger stripe maple, which, with some patience and work, produced this unusual and cool looking board. The board is competition sized 18" x 18" and is approximately 3/4" thick. It is finished in three coats of semi-gloss polyurethane and has optional silicone grip feet attached to the bottom for more stable flat surface play.

The pieces are made from maple, feature the contrasting light/dark burn color profiles and finished in gloss lacquer and match up with the board in color and profile most handsomely. They are also "triple weighted" with lead inserts in each piece. King Height - 3.9"(97 mm), King Base - 1.6" (41 mm), Pawn Height - 2.1" (52 mm), Pawn Base - 1.1" (29 mm).

The board is customizable with text or 2.5D carvings by request. Message me for details.
